The first of this new class of ships, Explora I is the first of three sister ships that are expected to appear over the next four years, through 2026. An adults-only ship and the ninth cruise ship for Viking Cruises, Viking Saturn is an ocean ship, but is small enough that it can dock at ports where larger cruise ships just can’t. Another area that will be bigger on Celebrity Ascent than on the first two Edge-class ships is the three-deck-high Grand Plaza. Even the smallest cabins on Silver Nova will measure at least 357 square feet, which is unusually large for a cruise ship cabin. In addition to asymmetry in many areas, one thing that will be particularly noticeable about Silver Nova is its spaciousness. At 54,700 tons, the ship will be about 34% bigger than the line's last three new vessels — Silver Muse, Silver Moon and Silver Dawn.
With progress on Icon of the Seas moving along, Royal Caribbean has already started building another large “icon class” ship. The cruise line expects that unnamed vessel to launch in 2025, per a statement. British-based P&O Cruises took delivery of its largest-ever cruise ship and first to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in October 2020. This came after delays due to the global pandemic and the impact on the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papengburg, Germany, which is where the vessel was constructed. The vessel is different from other large ships in the cruise industry and boasts features like the Zipline and the AquaTheater.

Seven Seas Grandeur will also offer an array of elegant and high-end restaurants, all of which are included in the fare. Silver Nova's main pool area, for instance, will have an unusual horseshoe shape with an orientation that runs from the port side of the ship to the starboard side. In just a few years, that'll give the line a bigger capacity than such well-known luxury cruise operators as Seabourn and the soon-to-relaunch Crystal Cruises. Virgin is going after travelers who might think themselves too cool to cruise.

However, since the arrival of the much-anticipated new-class Icon of the Seas, the vessel has now lost that crown.
